The first time he saw
her was a few nights back in his dreams. For some reason, he couldn't
get her out of his head. He knew why he couldn't stop thinking about
her. Seemed like night after night she was always there, sitting in the
grass field with the wind blowing through her long brown hair, wearing a
white dress. Not only was she always there, but the dream always
started the same for Markus. She would always be holding him in her
arms. He wished this was a love dream. For some reason, it always seemed
to end up dark...
"Markus," She
seductively whispered into his ear. Her voice would always send shivers
down his spine. Sadly, what she said next wasn't what he wanted to hear.
It seemed like every time he met with her, she always asked him to do
things he didn't want to do. He wasn't sure if it was him being sexually
attracted to her, or if it was how she said things. None of that matter
right now. All that mattered was that he was slaughtering a pig in his
dream. She always told him it wasn't for a bad cause. She needed it for
food. She would always say this. Sami wasn't like everyone else.
Not only was she beautiful, but she lived off the land she had told
Markus. He wasn't sure that was really true. After all her dress she
wore always looked washed and she always smelled so damn good to him.
Tonight she had him slaughter a pig. After he got a good embrace from
Sami he awoke from his slumber.
He awoke in a field
holding a knife, covered in blood. Horrified he got up, throwing the
knife in the lake that was in front of him. Being shunned with horror he
darted back to his house. He wasn't sure how far away he was, or where
he was until he started running, and hit the main road where the
sidewalk was. Judging from the street signs he was at least three of
four miles away. He ran so fast to his house it didn't seem like he was
that far away. Upon entering his house he went over to his kitchen sink
washing, the dry blood of his hands. He slipped his clothes off throwing
them in his hamper and jumping in the shower. After a long shower, he
laid down in his bed.
"This needs to end. This
can't keep happening." He mumbled to himself. He knew this wasn't the
first time it happened, but this was the first time he woke up covered
in blood. Finally, he was giving in. Starting first thing in the morning
he was going to get help. Enough was enough. Whatever was going on with
him wasn't getting any better. It was only getting worse.
Seven in the
morning came quickly. The sound of his alarm didn't do him any favors.
He didn't sleep all night. He just laid there looking at the alarm
clock. It was to the point to where it made him angry. He didn't hit his
alarm clock he yanked it from the wall throwing across the room,
sitting up on his bed. Luckily he was off from work today. He had been
for a couple of weeks now. He had plenty of vacation time, he was going
to be sure to use to try to get his priorities straight. He slipped into
some clothes, making his way out his front door to the medical clinic.
On the way over he stopped and got himself some coffee. He was
definitely going to need it if he planned on staying awake. He didn't
have to drive far from the gas station to his medical clinic. He arrived
there right at eight thirty. He made his way into the office up to the
front desk.
"Hello, can I help you."
The secretary smiled at him. Try as he did he couldn't muster up the
happiness to smile back at her. So he kept his head down, avoiding eye
contact with her," Hello, I need to make an appointment with Doctor
Christopher Jenkins."
"Sure thing." The woman smiled at him typing on her keyboard," It looks like I have an opening for next week at one-"
"No I don't think you understand," he pointed his finger down on the counter," I need to see him today."
"I'm sorry sir, but I can't do that. There are no openings for today."
He frowned at her,
raising his voice a little more," Listen, you're going to make sure I
get in there today. It's rather urgent I speak to him." A female voice
inside of him told him to call her a bitch, really loud in his head. He
pushed that thought out of his, by shoving a finger in his ear, and
shaking his head.
"I'll see what I can
do..." The front desk assistant made her way to the back, leaving him
standing there for about fifteen minutes before she came back up.
"Doctor Jenkins said he can see you in about an hour so. I'm going to
need you to fill out this information." She handed Markus the clipboard.
The paperwork was just another pointless piece of the puzzle to him. He
took his time filling it out, though. By the time he was done an hour
had passed and Doctor Jenkins called him to his office. Markus meet
Doctor Jenkins at the office door.
"You must be the man that has been so eager to see me?"
"Yes, I'm having
issues." Doctor Jenkins chuckled," Well, of course, that's why you were
wanting to see me...I'm kidding of course. But what type of issues are
you dealing with?" He led Markus back to his room.
"I'm not going to going
to sugar coat it doctor, I've been waking up in these weird ways-" He
started to tell the doctor he woke up with blood on him, with his
clothes ripped, and torn but decided it might not be the best of ideas.
"What do you mean? What kind of weird ways?"
"I've been having these
dreams. Of this woman. She's in every single one of my dreams and
sometimes I hear her voice throughout the day...she talks to me."
Doctor Jenkins raised an eyebrow while jotting down some notes," Are you on any forms of medicine?"
"No."
"I want to prescribe
some Olanzapine. We'll see how it works within a few days when you come
back." Jenkins tore off the paper handing it to Markus, standing up in
his chair.
"Wait that's it?"
"Yes, I believe so. I have other people to see."
Markus sat up on
the couch he was sitting on, getting in the Doctors face," You didn't do
shit to help me! All you did was sit there, listen to me talk with no
solution, and prescribe me drugs."
"I assure you if you take this prescription it could help you."
"Yeah okay. Thanks for
nothing." Markus darted out the room and headed straight to the parking
lot to his car. After a while of driving around, he found himself deep
in thought, thinking about the woman in his dream. He decided it was
best to stop driving for the time being. He found a park to pull off
into.
Parking at the
highest point of the park, to where he could see the whole city on from
atop the highest point of the park. Even with the utopia of the park he
still found his mind wandering. He eventually found himself dozing
off... it became to overwhelming for him to fight....
It was dark. The
only light in the sky was from the full moon and in the distance the
sound of the crackling of the fire in the distance. A strange smell of
aroma filled the cool night air. Markus found himself walking through a
forested area and at the moment he wondered if he was still in the park,
where his car was. Maybe I somehow fell asleep and woke up in this area
of the park? He thought to himself. The closer he got to the fire in
the distance the more confused he got. He took a small leap through a
pair of bushes to find the campfire. The scene reminded him of someone
camping back in the old days. There wasn't just one fire, but there was
two. The bigger fire was the one that caught his eye at first because
there was something dangling from it. The second fire was a smaller one,
sitting beside of him just small enough to have a giant pot on the top
of it. It appeared to be cooking some sort of soup. That definitely
explained the smell in the air.
Behind the huge
bonfire was a tent; he started to make his way toward the tent but was
met with Sami stepping out of the darkness.
"My love." She smiled," I knew you'd come."
"What's going on? Where are we?"
"We're right where we
need to be. We can't waste any more time. We must act now and finish
what we started." She pointed to the top of the tree at the bag dangling
above the large flame. "What do you mean?" Markus asked. Behind him,
he heard a loud bubbling sound. It was whatever she was cooking in the
giant iron kettle. He wasn't sure what it was, but whatever it was smelt
create. "Are you ready, my love?" Sami grabbed Markus by the hand
leading him over to the rope that connected to the top of the bag,
dangling over the fire. She handed him a knife telling him to cut the
rope. This wasn't anything new to him. He knew what he needed to do. He
started to cut the rope but a loud bubbling noise from behind him caught
his attention. He turned his attention to the iron kettle that was
cooking the soup. On top of the soup was a human skull. Markus dropped
the knife and fell to the ground.
Sami stepped out of the darkness, picking the knife up.
"W-w-what did you do?"
Markus asked her. Sami started cutting the rope. Markus noticed the bag
started to move, making moaning noises.
"I'm only doing the very
thing we always do love." She smiled a demonic looking smile as she
kept cutting the rope. Markus got up running over to her, tackling her
to the ground.
A quick jolt woke Markus up from his slumber. He was back in the car at the park.
"It was a dream." He
started to chuckle," It was all damn dream." He started to run his hands
through his hair but stopped when he noticed he once again had blood on
them. He slowly turned to the passenger side of the car to notice a
body bag. He leaned over to unzip it and he wished he hadn't...It was
his therapist. He had apparently been stabbed in the chest and had been
dead for a long time. He was pale and had started to give off an odor.
Gagging he zipped the body bag back up.
"Don't you see you did
this!" A familiar female voice said in his head. He knew that voice all
too well. It was her. She was somehow doing this to him. All the
nightmares, all the sleepless nights. She was the one causing all this.
"No...no it wasn't me. It was you!" He hit the steering wheel of his car," It was you!" Sami started to do a maniacal laughter.
"Look at you. You're pathetic. Why don't you check your trunk?"
Markus got out of
the car to check his trunk. Without a doubt, his car was a harbor for a
slaughter house. Horrified to see he had at one point slaughtered his
sister and mother. He didn't remember doing it, in fact, he was sure he
didn't do it. He fell to the ground letting out a loud scream.
"What...what...what did you do?"
Sami chuckled," I just did what I needed to do to make us closer."
"No!" He yelled taking
off running deep into the forest. Markus found himself losing traction
on the bottom of his shoes the faster he ran. The grass was wet causing
Markus to slid rolling down the hill....
"Markus. Wake up Markus."
Markus jolted waking up in a field. The sun was shining and it was no longer dark outside.
"What happened? Where Am I?"
"You're with me now dear." Markus got up looking at Sami standing in front him.
"You killed them. You stay away from?"
"You can't run Markus. You're stuck in here forever with me. We belong together."
"What?! You don't know what you're talking about! I'm going home!"
"Oh dear, you still don't know do you?"
"What? What are you talking about."
"Markus you're no longer
alive. You hit your head really hard causing you to crack it open on a
log in the middle of woods. For some reason, you thought you could out
run the one that loves you the most. Now you're stuck here forever with
me. While your body remains in a comatose stat. You're stuck with your
lover forever. I guess it's not all that bad. Now I can show you what
real love is like." Sami grinned a sinister grin. Try as he must Markus
couldn't move. It almost felt like he couldn't breathe. He lost all
motor skills at that moment. He didn't want to believe her, but as she
was talking flashbacks were being played back in his head. He hated to
admit it, but Sami was right. He would remain with her for eternity.
