Be Careful What I Say.......

We all heard in the news recently that a girl aged six had been found dead, three hours after she was reported missing. She’d been staying at her grandparent’s home, her dad’s parents. At first the police said, she had just died, they were not sure what had happened, but after the post-mortem, it was announced that she had been raped and killed!
I said to my Husband, “He should be hanged for what he has done!” How must her grandparents feel? They would be devastated!
Then a few days later, we heard it was a child age just sixteen! Then I remembered my words to Paul a few days before. Sometimes we say things and not think it through, for I wouldn’t want my Son hanged! This is someone’s child, so then I thought of another option life in jail! I wouldn’t want that either for my Son.
Our Son Daniel, heard us discussing it, he said to us, “Would you come and visit me in jail?” I was now in the kitchen and heard Paul reply, “It depends what you’d done,” But I’m sure even after a few months and years that would change if he got life, and I’d go and visit him.
It’s strange how I changed my views, from been harsh to not harsh, but the crime had still been committed. So, I thought of the lad’s family we can’t imagine how they must be feeling, they must be devasted!
Another thing, I don’t think, the young murder should have his name, or her name kept a secret, it should be made known, even thou I wouldn’t like it for myself. For that’s how new identities are formed so later on the people who meet them, don’t know who they really are and if they happen to be set free, the may commit another crime.
Justice must be done, RIP to the little girl.

Thank you for writing this. I
Thank you for writing this. I also felt concern for the perpetrator. Also, for those who, when driving wildly, without thought to anyone getting hurt, even themselves, and then a very bad crash occurs. To face up to their wrong will be so hard, but the only way to actually getting a possibility of not only forgiveness, but attempting to do some good with their lives. Often they haven't been given much direction by our society. Rhiannon

The whole thing was such a tragedy - not only for the families, but it also happened in a very small, close community so must have affected everyone. It does also raise lots of different issues about support services. Thank you for your interesting piece TK

The bewilderment and pain of those involved in this are so awful to think about. It affects whole communities - Di, I can't imagine how you even start to process it. As a society we always struggle with how to treat children or young adults who commit terrible crimes.
