The Scapegoat - Part 5.
So the dreaded day of the court arrived! Meghan wanted to be there but I told her she had to go to school and I told her I would let her know by text as soon as I knew anything. At one point while still at home it was just me and Daniel in the room, I asked him how he was, I asked him if he was nervous, he replied, “Yes” I told him I had prayed that all would work out for the best and that they would see he is not guilty.
I had to tell my manager about what had happened so that I could have the day off work. I made sure we were prepared so I made some sandwiches and took a small flask for Paul and myself, for Daniel I brought a bottle of Pepsi.
The other two lads were also there and their families. They had said they had heard we could be there for up to five hours! If that was the case, I hadn’t bought enough food! And tea mad Paul would be soon gasping for a cuppa. Then forty five minutes after we arrived we were told why we were there! It was to let us know the date set for the Courts!! So it was wasted day!
So now it was clear to us, the next time we went to court would be to go to court! And the lads would either be found not guilty or guilty of the crimes they said they had committed. Again we were told to be there 09.30a.m. Again I was prepared and had brought light refreshments for we couldn’t afford to be spending money on expensive drinks there at the court.
We were at court for two hours when our lawyer came over to us, and told us the judge wanted to see us in the court room, in there the Judge said he had three more cases before ours and that they would take all day, so we would have to all come back on another date! The judge said he was SO sorry, that he would make sure when we came back to court that we would be the very first in his list! We couldn’t believe it! But it was explained because the cases before us had changed their plea that meant the court case would be much longer than they had expected it to be! So yet another day was wasted!
Two weeks later Paul and I got up VERY early, for it was a very special day for us, it was the car boot of car boots, our very favourite one! We had got all the lovely items we were going to sell the next day and everything was ready. We had got there in good time, it was packed, jam packed, I don’t think we had seen it this full, ever; we were all packed into the field like sardines! Everything was perfect! I sold some lovely things, we ALWAYS do well here, the sun was hot the people keen to buy, then at 09.15am my mobile rang, It was our youngest child Meghan, she said the police had just been our home and they had taken Daniel!!!
