My Husband Paul was listening to the radio, this week, and he was listening to a modern-day soldier, who had been to Iraq and other places. He’d lost his leg in one of the wars he was in, while fighting for his country.
Paul mentioned this to me, because I’d just bought five poppies, one to give to each of our kids and the other three for when one drops off or goes missing.
He said quoting the soldier on the radio, who was now back home, “I’ve never had a f*cking penny given to me from the sale of a poppy!” He went on to say, “I’ve suffered hardship, struggled with mental health and it had been very hard for me financially.”
I said, to Paul, “This year one of the poppy organizers, have set up a, Slip Through The Net, for all the solders, who have come back and who have not yet received any money from the sale of poppies and importantly, for anyone who knows of anyone who may have slipped through the net.
I said, to Paul, “Now he has been on the radio and aired his hurt views, hopefully someone will let him know about the poppy appeal and that at last he will benefit and get financial help."
