A little more from shade of the black
Polly started towards the door and then stopped again, and turning back she said. “I take it that you know about the oath?” Celina felt shocked, and then understood. Polly had Merlin’s memory.
“You mean about hurting people?” she asked. Polly nodded. Acceptance was finally coming to Celina now that she could put a name to the woman.
“I think it was Morgana who explained it to me that night.” They looked at each other, and then Polly turned and walked away.
It was shortly after Polly had left that the connecting door opened, and Jane stood there.
“She thanked you then?” Celina beckoned and said.
“She thanked me and more.” Then pulling the covers aside she said. “You had better get in.”
Jane slid between the sheets, listening without saying a word as Celina repeated what Polly had told her. By the time Jane had finished asking the few questions she had, the clock was striking one.
“No more questions?” Celina asked. Jane snuggled down, wrapped her arms protectively around Celina, and said.
“No, no more questions.” Then with a giggle, “I suppose by now Polly’s a woman.”
“She had better be, if not Robert’s reputation with women will be in tatters.” Both of them laughed as the glow went out, and it wasn’t long before two nightdresses fell to the floor.
As Celina finally drifted off to sleep, somewhere from a long way away a voice said.
’Sleep well my daughter; sleep well.’
