"To try and explain this feeling to you would be impossible because
there is not enough paper in the world to do justice the words that I
would need to get it through to you..."
"The feelings I have for you are beyond words and beyond anything that
you or anyone else could imagine..."
"Do not walk ahead of me, I may not follow. Do not walk behind me
because I may be afraid to lead. Just walk beside me, hold my hand and
all shadow of doubt shall recede..."
Her hands ripped and crumpled sheet after sheet of paper. The torn
pieces fluttered to the floor around her. She didn't know why she was
writng these thoughts down onto paper, but for some reason, it only
made her more frustrated.
Pressing the backs of her hands to her forehead, the plastic ballpoint
pen dropped from her fingers and cluttered to the desk. Her wild black
hair framed the look of anguish on her pale face, black lips pinched in
frustration. Her pink tongue flickered out and moistened the dark
cracked lipstick, white teeth flashing like tiny diamonds.
Slamming her hands to the surface of the desk, strands of heavily
teased hair flew back from her face and settled on top of her head,
making her look like medusa for a split second within the flashing of
lightning.
Tears slid from her eyes and trickled slowly down her cheeks, pulling
all the layers of mascara, eyeliner and deep purple eyeshadow through
the pale face powder, resembling a black river running through pure
white snow.
Shutting her eyes tightly, images flashed behind them, piercing her
brain like the screams of a child being tortured.
Blood, so much blood...
Lightning much like the lightning that night split through her
thoughts, separating them and making them seem to be disjointed even
though the incidents may have taken place within seconds of each
other.
Her eyes snapped open at almost the exact second that her mouth did,
"NO!"
She pushed away from the desk and stood quickly, flustered and agitated
and took the folding chair into her hands.
The sound that it made as it crashed into the empty crates on the
opposite side of the warehouse echoed in the rafters for what seemed
like ages.
Bats and swallows that inhabited the building screeched and fluttered
in the darkness. She stood, feet apart, breathing heavily, feeling
almost as if she was frozen in time.
What had happened? She couldn't remember exactly, she had trained
herself to become immune to the feelings that it revoked in her and
through this, many incidents had vanished altogether from her dark
memory.
Her whole body and mind was disturbed and she felt restless. What was
this that she was feeling? It may have happened before, aeons ago, but
she could not remember that time. She was too far into the future now
to go back.
This feeling aggrivated her and yet it intrigued her with its
depth.
She felt that it was buried deep within her, along with the time when
she was alive...
Katrina had become a creature of the dead too long ago for her dark
mind to recall, but she knew that it had not always been so. It had
been Victor who had transformed her. He had fallen in love with her
human form and could not bring himself to kill her entirely once he had
finally captured her. By exchanging blood with her, he had brought her
into the world of Darkness.
Her vampiress memory served her with images of him, chasing her until
he caught her, obsessed like a cat with it's prey. He had cornered her
eventually, at his home in the hills. In the library, she had been
backed up against the wall behind the suit of armour. She remembered
being able to smell the blood in his veins as his teeth sank into her
neck, as she felt her throat snap under the pressure of his jaws.
Lightning flashed behind her eyes as she felt everything transform
inside her, as Darkness filtered slowly and painfully into her brain
just as Victor's blood seeped into her veins.
She had stood after that, clutching her torn bleeding throat as she
looked down over Victor's now completely lifeless body. He had given
his blood to her and taken hers, poisoning himself in the
process.
She had kicked at him lightly with her foot, stubbing him in the side
to make sure that he was completely lifeless.
Her eyes came into focus and she stared at the mess on the opposite
side of the warehouse.
With cat-like reflexes, she bent her legs and then jumped, propelling
her body into the rafters of the warehouse. Her hands closed around
wood and she whipped her legs around it almost at the same time.
Swinging around she sat atop the beam and looked down to the door of
the warehouse.
"What the hell happened in here?"
"Dunno, Jack, looks like a wild animal had a party in here!"
The security guards' torches cast long beams of dusty light across the
warehouse and Jack chuckled anxiously.
"Look at our chair, it's broken clean in two!"
"Holy shit..."
"Told you we never should have used this place for our coffee breaks,
we would've gotten into shit either way, now we have to explain to the
police what the hell happened here"
"I always felt weird drinking my coffee in here, always felt as if I
was bein' watched, you know?" Jack said nervously, "Besides, the
thought of all those dead bodies in here, ripped to shreds just freaked
me out."
"Yeah, I know what you mean..."
"Let's get outta here"
"Hey! What the hell was that?"
The two spun back around and cast their torch light to the rafters high
above their heads, but all they could see was the disturbed dust
falling from the wooden beam and what seemed like a black creature
swiftly fleeing through the hole in the side panel of the warehouse
roof...
"Probably just a bat,we're seein' things... I must switch to decaf.
C'mon, let's scoot."
His face was peaceful as he slept, pale moonlight sweeping across his
forehead, making him seem almost angelic. The criss-crossed shadows
from the bars on the window played games on his crumpled bed sheets
with the light of the full moon.
"Terence..."
His name rolled from her lips and shattered into the silence of the
room.
She froze, her muscles tensed and ready to react within a split second
of danger. He did nothing save to shake his sandy head and mumble a few
words in his sleep.
Relaxing at his bedside once again, she reached out a cold pale hand
and let it hover just above the skinof his throat.
She could smell his hot blood coarsing through his veins and she longed
to tranqulize him and carry him into the night with her and show him
how good it felt to fly through the darkness.
A strange feeling jolted inside her and she recoiled as if she had been
shocked.
She looked down over his broad body as the feeling echoed inside her
mind, disturbing her normal precise pattern of thought.
Without thinking , she reached foward again and brushed the skin of his
cheek with her hand. She had a split second to relish the feeling of
his skin burning beneath her frozen fingers, to feel his blood running
under her fingertips before he awoke...
"What the..."
Terence was jolted from a disturbed sleep. His hand flew to his cheek.
He could've sworn that someone had pressed an icecube to it for a
second while he was sleeping. He quickly banished the ridiculous
thought from his mind.
A cool breeze shivered across the back of his neck.
He turned to the window and saw that it was open.
"I'm sure I closed that window before I went to bed..."
He pulled the covers off his body and climbed out of bed. Crossing over
to the window, he looked down over the city. As he was closing the
window, something caught the corner of his eye.
Snapping his attention to the spot, he could've sworn he had seen
something crouching on the ledge outside his window, but when he
looked, there was nothing to be seen but disturbed dust falling from
the edge...
