Adeline and Holly.
Holly.
Holly is your ray of light.
Your inner child you say.
You address yourself as Holly, I don’t say a thing, don’t bat an eye.
You carefully undo the plastic box wherein lies thinly sliced chunks of pale sweet watermelon.
The first of the season, In early April, perhaps slightly premature but a luxury.
Silly Holly.
Holly is so carefree.
Holly doesn’t mind if a bit of watermelon juice happens to drop onto her white sweater
But Adeline won’t really let her.
She’s a figment of the imagination, obviously, a conscious choice of
a person that she could hope to be
One day.
But she won’t.
She’s never really met a Holly, so it’s a convenient name.
But don’t we all wish to know a Holly
To be a Holly, to shake Holly's delicate hand and call Holly our best friend because we’re so alike?
For now, I think I'm more drawn to Adeline.
