Thaw

I crawl out of bed.
Put on my armour.
The world nips at my hands
As I step out the door.
The walls are built up
And I can't see straight.
I've seen further ahead
In the dead of night.
I just want to go home.
I just want to go home.
But nothing's there.
The warmth does nothing for me anymore.
Every sign's blank.
Every shop's closed.
The watchdogs are out.
The path's full of holes.
I should have left sooner.
I should have prepared.
Even so, nothing could have braced me
For those icy cold stares.
I just want to go home.
I just want to go home.
But nothing's there.
The warmth does nothing for me anymore.
I finally crumple to the ground
Worn out and broken and dead.
When a hand reaches through the obscurity
And picks me up off
My feet of lead.
Her candle-light eyes
Shine through the haze.
As our hearts draw closer
We're both warmed by the blaze.
I don't need to go home.
I don't need to go home.
My hearth's right here.
My heart's alright here.
I don't need to go home.
I don't need to go home.
My heart's alright here.
My hearth's right here.
