They said stay put.
I listened,
for a bit.
They said don't worry.
I listened,
for a bit.
They said be quiet.
Be patient.
Don't do that!
Be still.
Stop moving!
You'll ruin it!
I listened,
I listened,
I questioned,
for a bit.
They didn't bother.
No mirrors.
No shoes.
Only gray clothing,
to cover my bruise.
They left me bread crumbs,
and basil.
Some pills.
And a cup
with some liquid,
a smell
that would kill.
I didn't eat it.
It didn't hurt me.
I only rattled the bars.
They think they own me.
They think 'They made me.'
At first I listened,
to their lie
I tried to fight back,
they wouldn't let me.
I think I saw something,
just for a bit.
