Once upon a time; a queen died and her husband remarried but his new queen was an evil witch who, as soon she had a crown upon her head, turned herself into a venomous viper and killed her husband with just one bite.
But one thing stood in the way of her controlling the kingdom, for she had a stepdaughter; the child of the kings first wife, named Odina who was entitled, according to custom, to inherit one half of the kingdom.
And so she wrote down an order and handed it to one of her soldiers; an order that the soldier should take Odina out into the forest and kill her.
But, fortunately, Odina had a four leaf clover; a present that her mother had given her and one of the leaves fell off the clover and when it did the word 'kill' in the queens order was changed to 'kiss'.
And so though a soldier came to arrest Odina and take her into the forest, he did not kill her but started to kiss her.
"Stop! Stop!", protested Odina, "What are you doing?".
"What the queen has ordered me to", said the soldier, showing Odina the order written by her stepmother.
As Odina looked at the words of the order however, they changed back to their original form and Odina saw what her Stepmother had really written.
But she did not show the words to the soldier and instead kissed him and thanked him for doing his duty before running off into the forest.
When the soldier returned to the palace of the Queen however and told her that he had only kissed Odina instead of killing her, the evil Queen was so angry that she had the soldier put to death.
Then she sent a wolf out into the forest to hunt down Odina and eat her, ordering it to return with her heart in its jaws but as the wolf was searching for Odina, sniffing her out, another of the leaves upon her clover dropped off and she met a lion who also wanted to eat her.
Now that might seem like bad luck and, indeed Odina thought it was bad luck too as she saw the lion licking its lips but then the wolf found Odina and the Lion and the Wolf got into a fight over who would eat Odina and while they were fighting Odina slipped away.
And as she was escaping the two wild beasts, Odina found an old cottage that she thought was empty because when she called out, "Hello? Hello? Does anyone live here. No one replied".
But then, as she was exploring the cottage, a young naked man entering the room surprised her and she screamed.
But then she discovered that the young man was deaf and that was the reason he had not answered her before.
Fortunately, the man could read her lips and when he had covered himself up, she explained who she was and he agreed to let her stay with him.
But when the Queens wolf did not return the Queen turned herself into a vulture and flew throughout the forest searching for Odina and when she found her picking flowers in the forest, the Queen turned herself into an old apple seller and she offered one of her brightest, rosiest red apples to Odina to buy.
And Odina did buy the apple but as she was going to bite into it another of the leaves fell off of Odinas lucky clover and a worm crawled out of the apple and gasped, "Don't eat it. Its poison".
Ofcourse the Queen tried to silence the worm by seizing hold of it but it bit her upon the finger and when it did she lost concentration and her true form was revealed to Odina.
And when Odina saw the Queen she turned and ran screaming back to the cottage.
Unfortunately because the young man who owned the cottage was deaf he couldn't hear her screaming and because he was facing his cottage chopping wood, he had his back turned to her and so could do nothing to help as the Queen, turning into a scaly and hairy monster grabbed hold of her carrying her off.
But then, just as Odina was sure that she had no luck left, the last leaf fell from her magic clover and the deaf man turned round and saw the monster in the distance about to kill the princess with its long dagger like claws.
And though he was deaf, the man had the sharpest eyes in all the world and, picking up a bow and arrow he shot the monster through the pupil at the centre of its single eye and the monster fell dead.
After that Odina returned to her palace and, because they had fallen in love, she married the deaf man who had saved her and they lived happily ever after.
