Some have hair like the midnight;
some like blazing fire or sun
but all have eyes that shine bright
and I desire them, every one.
Some have skin of burnished bronze
and some like roses and milk;
some like ebony but every one
has skin as soft as silk.
And all were born to tempt me;
to make my arms feel empty;
beauty, like Heaven, sent me,
it seems, just to torment me.
Oh longing, like a bed of briars;
oh to go deeper, deeper and higher;
to be consumed in Heaven’s fires;
to quell and quell this eternal desire.
