Once there was a young girl called Ebda who had three pets; a dog, a cat and a mouse who got on very well together and loved the girl very much because she was so kind to them.
But then, one day, her mother and father died and were taken away to heaven so Ebda was forced to go and live with her cruel Aunt Mibida.
Fortunately the girl was allowed to take the dog, the cat and the mouse to live with her. Unfortunately her Aunt Mibida wanted to get the girl out of the way so that she would inherit the fortune the girls parents had left her.
And on the first night that the girl was sleeping in the house of her Aunt, Mibida opened a box of venomous snakes and let them crawl into her room.
Fortunately, the mouse heard the snakes hissing and he woke up the cat that woke up the dog and realising that their mistress was in danger, the dog and the cat killed the snakes biting them each in two.
And the next day when the evil Aunt Mibida came into her room she saw all the snakes bitten in two and snake blood on the lips of the cat and dog and realizing what had happened, said to Ebda,
“Oh dear. How did those vile snakes get into your room? How fortunate that you had your cat and dog to protect you”.
But secretly her Aunt Mibida was thinking that she must get rid of the girls three pets and so going to her kitchen she prepared three dishes, a large one with a raw steak upon it; a middle sized one with a fish upon it and a small one with a chunk of cheese upon it and onto each she sprinkled some poison saying to herself, with a cackle, “When that dog, cat and mouse eat this poison food they’ll drop dead and I’ll be rid of them then I will kill my niece and inherit her fortune”.
However, what Mibida didn’t know was that, smelling the cheese the mouse had come into her kitchen and had heard her evil plans and it ran back to tell the cat and the dog.
And when the evil Aunt brought the 3 dishes to them, rather than eating them, the dog dug a hole in the ground and they buried the food instead then, rolling over on their backs and holding still, pretended to be dead.
And thinking them dead the evil Aunt put them onto her cart to take them and dump them down an old well in the woods but just as she was about to throw the cat down the well, it opened its eyes and leapt up from her arms with a shriek and this gave the Aunt such a fright that she lost her balance and fell down the well instead and was killed instantly.
But then, the mouse riding upon the cat and the cat riding upon the dog they went back through the woods to their mistress.
As they were walking through the woods, however, they passed by a cave in which a handsome young man, a prince was bound and gagged while a giant ogre, snoring, lay asleep on a bed of straw.
The ogre had kidnapped the prince and intended to cook him and eat him.
Quietly entering the cave the mouse gnawed through the ropes that bound the prince setting him free while the cat removed his gag and the dog fetched him an axe that was nearby.
Now, the prince, because he was forgiving, was going to creep away and let the sleeping ogre live but the ogres long handled magic spoon leapt up and started to bang upon the side of its cauldron waking the ogre up and, seeing the Prince trying to escape, the ogre seized its large spiky club so the Prince was forced to fight the ogre.
Fortunately just as the Prince was cornered by the ogre, the dog bit the ogres leg, making it turn round in surprise and the Prince buried the axe in the ogres back killing it.
Then the prince followed the dog, cat and mouse through the woods to the house of their mistress and the Prince and Ebda meeting they immediately fell in love, were married soon after and they, the dog, the cat and the mouse lived happily ever after.
