Hail to thee, Gladiolus,
brave, bright lily of the sword;
with your bold colours, you console us
more than a thousand pleasing words.
Sword of the springtime; sword of joy
held firmly in fierce nature’s hand,
with which, my sadness, she destroys
and drives bleak winter from the land.
