The hunter’s eyes are sharp eyes
and yet they fail to see
how beautiful the bird is
that he aims at with such glee.
The hunter’s ears are good ears
yet never seem to hear
the beauty of the birdsong
that his shot steals from the air.
The hunter, he is cunning
yet cannot be so smart
if he can’t see the treasure
of bright birds with beating hearts.
