Magnetina- The Most Attractive Girl In The World

Once upon a time there was a young maid who was very sad because she was always being teased by her cruel step mother and step sisters who, jealous of her good looks, called her ugly.

 

“No man would ever marry you, Magnetina”, her ugly step sisters would say to her, “You’re repulsive”.

 

And poor Magnetina got so upset because of all their bullying that one day she ran out of the house and into the woods.

 

“I don’t care if I get eaten by wild beasts”, she said, crying, “Or die of hunger or cold, I don’t have any reason for living. I’m so ugly”.

 

But then, as she was walking through the woods, Magnetina passed by an old Well that she knew was supposed to be a wishing well and going over and looking down into the well she threw in a coin.

 

“Oh please”, she said, not expecting anything much to happen, “Oh please. Oh wishing well. Make me attractive”.

 

But then, to the girls astonishment, she heard a deep, rumbling voice speaking from deep inside the well,

 

“Your wish has been granted Magnetina”, it said.

 

And hearing this, Magnetina was so happy that she leapt about and danced and whirled with joy.

 

But then, as Magnetina was dancing about, suddenly, up out of the wishing-well came all the coins of copper that people had thrown into it and, flying towards her, they started to stick to her.

 

“What’s happening!”, said Magnetina, frightened, as more copper coins came out of the well and started rolling, upon their edges towards her.

 

“You wished to be attractive”, said the well, “And so I made you magnetic. Now you attract metal”.

 

“But that’s not what I wanted; that’s not what I meant”, said Magnetina, becoming upset.

 

“I can’t help that”, said the Well, “A wish granted is a wish granted”.

 

But then, suddenly, up out of the well came a huge tidal wave of clattering, clinking copper coins that loomed over Magnetina threatening to come crashing down upon her and so, turning and running, pursued by all the copper coins, Magnetina ran all the way home to the house of her wicked step mother and step sisters and, pounding upon their door, cried,

 

“Oh, please let me in; please, they’re after me!”.

 

“Who is after you?”, asked the Wicked Step mother, opening her door just a crack and peering out.

 

“Them”, said Magnetina, pointing towards a gigantic horde of copper coins that were bouncing and bumping; rushing madly towards her.

 

Seeing the enormous tide of coins, the wicked step mother got so frightened that, shrieking, she shut the door in Magnetinas face.

 

When the Stepmother opened the door again, however, she saw poor Magnetina covered from head to foot in copper coins and sobbing.

 

And at first the Stepmother was going to scold Magnetina angrily but then, when the girl had told her all about the Wishing-Well and how the coins had followed her home, the Stepmothers mood started to change and a greedy look glowed in her eyes,

 

“Hmm”, she said to Magnetina, “So you attract money. Well that is useful”.

 

Then, once she and her wicked daughters had picked all of the copper coins off Magnetina and put them into a sack, they took her inside the house.

 

Unfortunately, when they did this, all the pots and pans in the kitchen, because they were made of iron, flew towards Magnetina.

 

“Oh help!”, cried Magnetina, cowering.

 

Her wicked Stepmother beat back the iron pots and pans with a rolling pin.

 

“No this will never do”, said her Stepmother, “There are just too many metal things in the house. Magnetina will just have to sleep in the barn from now on”.

 

And so all the metal things were cleared out of the barn and Magnetina had to sleep upon a bed of straw.

 

But Magnetinas wicked Stepmother had big plans for her,

 

“With Magnetinas magnetic power”, she told her daughters, rubbing her hands together in glee, “There’s no telling how rich we could become, my dears. Today, copper coins; tomorrow silver and gold”.

 

But then, that night, as in the barn, Magnetina lay trying to sleep, shivering from the cold;  there was a terrible storm and a knight in armour, riding by upon his horse; frightened that he might get struck by lightning decided that he should take shelter in the barn.

 

But after he had tied up his horse and lay down upon some straw, suddenly, the knight felt a

powerful force pulling upon the metal gauntlet on his right hand; it was the magnetic pull of Magnetina who, unbeknown to the knight was lying nearby and, suddenly, before he knew what had

happened the knights right hand stuck to Magnetina.

 

Startled, Magnetina woke up and, seeing the knights left hand upon her, started to panic.

 

“Help!”, she cried, pushing his hand away, “Take your hand off me”.

 

Realizing what had happened, the knight was very embarrassed,

 

“Oh I’m sorry, Miss”, he said, “I didn’t see you there”.

 

“That’s all right”, said Magnetina, annoyed, “But please keep your hands to yourself”.

 

“Yes”, said the Knight, apologetically.

 

Unfortunately, however, then the knights other gauntlet covered hand, pulled by Magnetina’s attractive force stuck to her.

 

“Let go of me”, said Magnetina, “How dare you!”.

 

The knight blushed as Magnetina pushed his hand away angrily.

 

“Oh dear”, he said, “I’m sorry. I don’t what happened. My hand just seemed to move all by itself”.

 

But then the knight felt his entire suit of armour pulled towards Magnetina and, before he could do anything, he was lying pressed up against her with his arms wrapped round her.

 

Magnetina screamed, struggling to free herself from the knights embrace and getting to her feet.

 

“I’m sorry”, said the Knight, mortified by what had happened, “It’s my armour. It seems strangely possessed”.

 

Ofcourse, when Magnetina heard this, she realised straight away what had happened.

 

“Oh your armour”, she said, smiling, relieved, “It must be attracted to me, I’m magnetic”.

 

Then she told the knight all about what had happened; how the Wishing-Well had made her attract metal.

 

“And I only wanted to be pretty, because my Stepmother and my Stepsisters said I was so ugly; they said no man would ever want to marry me”, she told him sobbing.

 

But the knight couldn’t believe what the young woman had said,

 

“Fair lady”, he told her, “You have been sorely lied to and tricked. You are not ugly at all but the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and any man would be honoured to marry you. I would be honoured to marry you”.

 

At first, Magnetina was sure that the knight was only making fun of her but then he got down upon one knee and begged her to be his bride and, realising that the young man was in earnest, Magnetina accepted his offer.

 

And she was so happy that her happiness created a huge magnetic surge that pulled the knight off of his knees and into her arms but she did not mind now at all and then they kissed.

 

Then the knight told Magnetina all about himself; that he was a prince, named Ferris and first in line to the throne of his kingdom.

 

“And I would happily share my kingdom with you”, he said.

 

And the next morning, when the Storm had passed the Prince took Magnetina upon his white horse, back to his castle where they were married and lived happily ever after.

 

Magnetina’s Stepmother and Step Sisters were not happy however. In fact they were terribly jealous and the Stepmother sent the three daughters to the wishing well.

 

“If Magnetina’s wish came true, then your wishes might aswell”, she said.

 

And she told them each to wish for a handsome prince but, because she was too greedy to give them real coins to throw into the well, she gave them three fake coins; three bad penny’s and so instead of handsome princes, three ugly horrible ogres crawled up out of the well and carried off the three stepsisters and they were forced to marry them instead.
