The old man and the land of anythingspossible

Once, when I was walking in the woods, near my cousins farm I met an old man who seemed to be searching for something and he was crying.
"Have you lost something?", I asked.
"Only the way back", he said, shaking his head sadly.
"The way back where?", I asked him, "Home?".
"No", he said, looking at me and wiping the wetness from his eyes.
But then the old man explained to me how; years before, when he'd just been a boy as young as me, he'd found a door in the forest; a door to another world.
"The land of anythingspossible, its called", he said, "And anything is possible there. Your dreams are solid things; things you can hold in your hand".
"Sounds nice", I said smiling, thinking that the old man might be a little touched in the head and not wishing to upset him.
"It was", he said, "And I was warned that if I ever left it I could never go back. "The entrance will vanish", it said, "So you will never find it again" but I didn't listen".
"Didn't listen to who?", I asked curious but confused.
"The voice", he replied, "I don't know who it was. Just a voice but it told me I would never find the way back and it was right".
The man sank to his knees and started to sob.
"It was so marvellous", he said, tears cascading down his old cheeks.
I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.
"Well maybe I could help you find it again?", I said, looking around the forest.
"Perhaps", he said, sounding a little more hopeful and turning his face upwards to look at me, "Perhaps I am just too old. Perhaps it takes a young pair of eyes to see it".
Just then, however, to my absolute astonishment, I did see it.
It was like the opening to a cave only a cave of thin air and through the opening I could glimpse part of a gleaming, rainbow coloured world.
"Look", I said, pointing to the peculiar doorway, "Look. I think thats it. I think I see it".
The old man looked towards where I was pointing and suddenly the sorrowful expression on his face disappeared and was replaced by a jubilant smile.
"You have found it", he said, leaping to his feet, "You have".
I started to walk in the direction of the glowing magic door but then, suddenly, I felt myself being shoved to one side as the old man pushed past me, racing towards it.
"Its mine!", he shouted, "All mine at last".
But then, instead of me moving towards the door, the door rushed towards me, opening wide and, suddenly I was not in the forest anymore.
"Where are we?", I asked, looking round about me at a land of clouds and rainbow coloured light.
"The land of anythings possible", said the old man, "Just as I remember it".
But then he pointed a finger towards one of the clouds and, stunned, I saw it begin to change into a house; an enormous house like the mansion of a lord.
"Thats amazing", I said.
"I told you", he said, "Here, anything is possible".
But then, turning round towards me, the old man scowled.
"Now its time for you to leave", he said.
"Leave", I asked, startled, "But I don't want to leave. I want to make things aswell".
"No", he said, his tone becoming very crochety, "You must leave. This is my land. Not yours. You don't belong here".
But I wasn't going to leave. I'd just discovered a whole new world and I wanted to explore it; I wanted to see more.
"But this land doesn't belong to you", I protested.
"Yes it does", said the old man and, as he spoke I saw a giant hand rise, forming out of the clouds, "Its my land and no one else can live here but me".
But then the hand seized hold of me, encircling me in giant fingers of cloud and lifting me up off of the ground.
"Put me down, please", I said, struggling but soon realizing that the fingers that gripped me were as immovable as stone.
"Only if you leave now", he said, "Leave and never tell anyone about this place; never look for the door way again".
"But its not fair", I yelled.
I felt the fingers of the giant hand tighten around me.
"Would you like me to squeeze you like a tube of toothpaste until your head pops off?", he asked with a grin upon his face that revealed a hidden streak of wickedness in him.
"No", I pleaded, imagining my head popping from my neck in my mind, "No please. I'll go".
Just then however, behind him, I noticed something strange happening to the dream mansion that the old man had built from cloud.
It was changing into something else; something with two giant legs and two giant arms, a giant torso and, upon that an enormous, evilly grinning head just like the old mans.
"You don't belong here", said the giant looking down at the old man.
Turning round and looking up at his giant self in terror, the old man started to tremble.
"No", he said, "That isn't right. This is my land. Remember? I'm the king of Anythingspossible".
But the giant wouldn't listen to him.
"You don't belong", it roared; a gale rushing from its open mouth that almost blew the old man away.
But then I felt the hand that had lifted me up off of the ground start to lower me and its fingers start to loosen their grip.
"Please", said the old man, turning towards me with a desperate look upon his face, "You've got to help me. Don't let it destroy me".
I looked up at the giant that had raised up its right hand and saw a huge hammer appearing in the hand.
"Well why can't you control it?", I asked, "The way you did when you made that house".
"I don't know", he said, "Something has changed. When I came here as a child it was like a paradise. I would play and have so much fun and the sun would shine with a smiling face".
But then, as he spoke, I saw the giant man behind him begin to change, transforming into a smiling yellow sun and, suddenly, I realised what it meant.
"It must be your mood", I said, "Before, when you were angry the giant appeared but then you started talking about the sun and now theres a sun in the sky".
The old man turned and saw the sun.
"You're right", he said, "Its me".
But then he started to frown.
"I've become mean inside", he said, "And when you have a mean heart in the land of Anythings possible, it isn't dreams you make but nightmares".
I put a hand upon the old mans elbow, supportively.
"Don't worry", I said, "Maybe you were right. Maybe this is your land".
But then, I saw the door again; the one I had passed through and the forest beyond it and I started to move towards it.
"If you leave", said a voice from somewhere in the air, "You can never come back"
"Thats alright", I said, "I'm still a young boy. I don't need to live in a land of Anythingspossible because I've got a whole future of Anythingspossible to look forwards to and if I stay here I'll only miss it".
But then I saw the old man waving to me and smiling, saying goodbye, only he seemed so very, very small as if he were a long way away and then, suddenly, the door began rushing towards me, opening wide.
Once, when I was walking in the woods, near my cousins farm I met an old man who seemed to be searching for something and he was crying.
He said he was searching for a lost land, a land of Anythingspossible that he had found once as a child then he found it again and who knows, maybe one day, I will find it again too.
