The mighty hawk; terrible ruler of the skies,
swooped down, like lightning, upon a poor nightingale
and, when it heard the gentle songbirds harrowed cries,
the hawk squawked, “Those who challenge power always fail!”
but sadly, for the hawk, it hadn’t counted on
the power of a nightingales sweet, plaintive song
to strike the heart. A passing archer heard its cries
and, eyes spilling tears, let one of his arrows fly,
hitting the hawk and injuring its fiercesome head.
The joyful nightingale flew free; the hawk fell dead.
