Once a witch abducted a young princess and locked her in a tower and gave her some bread and a cup of water with love potion in them, saying,
"Drink the water and eat the bread and, because they contain love potion, you shall fall in love with me".
But the princess was in love with her husband and so she would not drink the water or eat the bread and, instead, threw the water out of her prison window and scattered the bread out of her window to feed the birds.
But the the witch refused to give her any bread or water that did not contain love potion.
"You will either eat the bread and water that I give you", she said, "Or you will die of hunger and thirst".
But the princess's love for her husband was so strong that she felt she would rather die from thirst or hunger than touch the witches love potion and so she continued to reject the bread and water, throwing it out for the earth to drink and the birds to eat.
Unfortunately, without food or water the princess got very ill and it seemed that she might die.
But then, one day, her husband arrived riding upon a horse and with a sword in his hand to rescue her.
But the witch put on her armour that was impenetrable and drew her sword that could cut through anything and went out to fight him.
And because her armour was impenetrable, his sword could not cut through it and because her sword could cut through anything, she quickly, with one swipe, cut his own sword as short as a dagger and then cut his armour to rags.
Terrified, the prince did not know what to do and, as the princess watched from behind prison bars she feared that the witch would surely kill her husband.
But then something remarkable happened.
Because the princess had fed the birds on bread containing love potion, they had all fallen in love with her and so they swooped down upon the witch, pecking at her face.
And because the princess had watered the roots of the tree that grew near her window with love potion, it too had fallen in love with her and came crashing down upon the witch knocking her from her horse.
Bewildered and still fighting off a flock of birds, the witch rose to her feet again, but then when she felt around to pick up the sword she had dropped whilst falling from her horse, she realised it was not there.
Seeing the sword fall from her hand, the prince had hurriedly picked it up you see and, because the sword could cut through anything it easily sliced through her impenetrable armour and into her dark heart.
And after the witch fell dead the prince used the same sword to cut through the door of the princess's prison and rescue her.
But then, seeing how weak from hunger and thirst she was, the prince wept, fearing that she might die.
"Feed me upon your kisses and let me drink upon the love from your heart", she said to him, "And I will not die".
And its true, with the princes love, the princess survived and, cared for by the best physicians her husband could provide, she soon regained her health.
He also made a garden for her where the tree that loved her was planted and the birds that loved her sang and then the princess and her prince lived happily ever after.
