1.
By the forest, in the dale
sang a sprightly nightingale
like a young heart yearning to be free.
As we strolled upon the green;
still enthralled by love we’d seen
underneath the leafy Linden tree.
Chorus:
I clasp, to my heart, a dream so dear;
sweet lilies and roses filled the air;
invisible angel fingers played
and music in our two hearts was made.
A snowflake upon my window pane,
the January sun turns into rain
but closing my eyes opens a door
to where Summer smiles forevermore.
2.
Countless kisses, there, we took
by the bubbling silver brook
my heart touching skies with ecstasy.
And though, snowy, is my beard;
my heart always will be there
underneath that lovely linden tree.
Chorus:
I clasp, to my heart, a dream so dear;
sweet lilies and roses filled the air;
invisible angel fingers played
and music in our two hearts was made.
A snowflake upon my window pane,
the January sun turns into rain
but closing my eyes opens a door
to where Summer smiles forevermore.
