You know that feeling when you're with your partner, I mean by your
partner, your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, I dunno, whatever
your partner is, could be a fucking west highland sheepdog for all I
care but the fact is you're with your partner and you're doing
something really trivial together, like, ach, I dunno, say you're
making the dinner together, or you're in the car, or you're watching
telly, whatever, right?, Let's just say you're together, just together
doing something really menial and you turn around and look at the
person next to you. your partner I mean, not someone else and all of a
sudden, suddenly you get this big rush of love. Pure Love. Whoooosh!
Right up from wherever it is it comes from, your heart, or stomach, or
groin, or wherever but anyway you get this big rush of emotion and you
feel, you just feel you have to say something. You look at him or her
or it and you just have to tell them you love them. You have no choice.
Tears well up in your eyes. It's so unexpected. So strong. So you say
it , "I love you" you say or maybe even "By the way you've no idea how
much I love you. You know what I mean, anyway. Lets say you recognise
the situation You've been there. Bought the T- shirt etc. And the
person next to you, your loved one, girlfriend, boyfriend, west
highland sheepdog turns round, and says something like " Oh right",
kisses you on the cheek but frankly they're too engrossed in the T.
V.programme they're watching or the dishes they're trying to clean or
the car they're trying to drive. Unless they're a sheepdog of course
since as far as I know Sheepdogs can't drive or at least they're not
allowed to. Maybe they can drive but they're just never given the
fucking chance, anyway the person you're saying " I love you" to,
doesn't realise just how much you love them at that moment but it's no
big deal. Because you're happy......What else......yeah! say maybe
you're not together. yeah, say you're both elsewhere. Not together. In
different places. Apart. So you're apart and the thought of whoever is
your loved one comes into you're head Wham! Zoink! Boing! straight in
your head and you just have to pick up the phone, the mobile, whatever.
You just have to talk to them. So you do. You phone them. They might be
at work or at home, how the fuck do I know? but the point is you phone
them right? You just want to tell the truth. How you feel. Something
like "I just called to say I love you" but you can't say that of course
because of that really corny song by Stevie Wonder, unless of course
you're a right dickhead, and you think it's funny in an ironic kind of
way, but excuse me, I'm sort of taking it for granted you're you're
kinda normal or something. O.K?. :Let's just take it for granted you're
normal so you say something like "Oh hi, it's me, listen I was just
wondering what time you'll be home tonight, blah, blah, blah, you just
talk rubbish because you can't get round to what you really want to say
and anyway it's just great to hear their voice, it cheers you up no
end. but eventually at the end of the conversation you say it, there's
a suitable moment, pause which comes along which allows you to say what
you want to say so you do . "I really love you, by the way, anyway
that's all bye, kiss, kiss, kiss, etc" And it feels great! Such a
release. You don't care that the person on the other end of the phone
is thinking What was that all about"? or "What's happened" or " I
married a nutcase, but what do I care, I'm a sheepdog" or they might
even say something like " What did I do to deserve that"? and you'll
reply " oh nothing, I just wanted you to know" or they simply might say
" I love you too" and you'll feel on top of the world. The happiest
person on earth. To love and be loved, that's what it's all about. At
the end of the day that's what it's all about.
