I looked at Hamish. Who had replaced the dodgy businessman, the charming, self-serving rogue I had known since childhood, with this stern creature who delivered lectures to the powerful?
Fire was a dominant theme in my childhood. It was for most kids in the fifties and sixties. It was one of our earliest lessons on the contrariness of life.
I began to laugh from fatigue, shock, grief, and an overriding terror of being locked down here in this cellar with a group of disparate and apparently ill-matched Bios.
Lovely hopeful ending, Paul, and yes, I think we probably all are buyers at the door waiting for hope. I'm such an old cynic I thought things would probably end badly for your protagonist, but they didn't, and that was a really nice surprise!
