Love Letter to No-one (17th June 2008, 12.04pm)
I do not yet know the course of our love,
but I know it won’t be smooth; we shall spend
caterpillar hours wriggling on duvets, that
butterfly into days on end, ordering in and
pretending that we have no jobs or friends.
Our unshaven legs will lie together in my
untidy rooms, and we shall watch our love
grow, as it blossoms and blooms, slow.
I shall beat my heart to the rhythm of you;
you can drum your ideas out to an irregular
tune on my back, with your fingernails proud,
drawing graffiti that heals, making sure I feel
your heightened passion. After a fashion, we
shall fall for each other, one row after another;
I will want to tell you things that can’t be said
in words that don’t exist yet, without you.
