Trusted celebrities

I read an article on Saturday which talked about a recent survey in Forbes Magazine.
Apparently the most trusted celebrities in the USA are as follows:
1 James Earl Jones
2 Tom Hanks
3 Michael J Fox
4 Mike Rowe (some kind of TV journalist apparently)
5 Morgan Freeman
6 Sally Field
7 Ron Howard
8 Will Smith
9 Bill Cosby
10 Denzel Washington
I thought it was interesting that 5 of them are black but only one woman. I also wondered if the gravity of the voice had something to do with it. So far as No7 is concerned though, I suspect people actually voted for Ritchie Cunningham.

Anyway, who do we think would be chosen in the UK? Given the probable importance of voice, the ones that immediately spring to my mind are:
David Attenborough, Moira Stewart, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Fry, Suchet (the Poirot one - I can't remember his first name).
Anyone else like to contribute?

Either would be worth commenting on. And thanks. David Suchet of course. I was just having a senior moment. Helvigo Jenkins

No. 1 in the UK would be Joanna Lumley, surely.
I hadn't thought of her, Tony. Hmmm, I agree she would be high in estimation but I stand by David Attenborough as No 1. David Dimbleby is also a thought. His dad was even more trusted and famously got many people to believe that spaghetti grew on trees. Helvigo Jenkins

Judi Dench Maggi Smith on the 'quietly reassuring' list?

Kerry Katona Katie Price John Terry... Oh for fuck's sake, celebrity is no reason to trust anyone.
people do though, don't they

'the world would be a better place if the parents had to eat the sprouts' Trust a celebrity? Why? I'd have more faith in Betty Boop, Popeye, Captain Pugwash and Lassie. Then again it was in America, a nation that put Bush in the Whitehouse and Arnie in California so I guess anything is possible. What's the next survey from Forbes Who's hair do you believe in? What's your favouirite Kerb? If your house was burning down which TV Presenter would you want to come and rescue you? If you had to be shot who would you like to shoot you? I could make money out of this -anyone know Cowell's number?
Erm, most cheap telly is based around making these endless 'top 100' lists, advertising campaigns depend on our comfort zone perceptions of a recognised figure and dare I say it so do electioneering posters. As insertPFNH notes, people like something to hang their hat on :-)

'the world would be a better place if the parents had to eat the sprouts' Comfort zones for that kind of tv should be in a coffin. Surely a 'perception of a recognised figure' is a question that could never be understood by those that get off on wanky z list celebrity shiteouse programmes? I want to see that new programme 'celebrity gunshot wounds - last twat standing' it's got legs.
As an aside, me and the sprogs love sprouts. http://www.ukauthors.com
