Bones, skin, fins, scales,
wisps of lovers, silvery tales.
Soup, liquor, consomme, broth;
essence of unplighted troth.
Pot simmers, chowder stews,
slow reduction, stinking glue
holds eye transfixed to the page,
savour somewhat lost with age.

Very good! My family decided
Very good! My family decided to rescue a couple of fish the other day who'd been left out in very little water in a front garden when their owners moved house. Sounds very charitable but one of them is the ugliest thing you could imagine. Gives me a similar shock and sense of disgust when I enter the room as your last line. So very timely (for me at least)...
