I have only these hands,
Hands that worked the dark earth,
Hands that held the kicking gun fast,
Hands from which blood can never be cleansed.

I have only these hands,
Hands that worked pen and pencil,
With fingers that danced a keyboard,
That moulded and shaped words.

And these hands have held you,
These hands have caressed you,
These hands have protected you,
These hands that could never harm you.
