White Lillies

My hands were shaking. More than I've ever known them to. I took a deep breath, swallowed the lump in my throat and summoned the courage to look up. Friendly faces looked back at me, silently seemingly applauding me. I grinned. Not long now.
Standing up in front of 50 plus, no even 10 plus was hard for me. But this. This was worth it. Every bit of it.
I turned and looked at the one person behind me, my best friend. She grinned at me, knowing how important this day was. I turned around and looked opposite me. Another important person, two thumbs up and a massive grin. 'I hope she behaves herself,' I thought.
The shakes started again. I looked down at my watch and saw it was time. 'Here we go.'
Suddenly that classic music filled the air, I took one last look at my bright white shoes and pulled my shirt down.
I looked up.
Silence filled the hall.
Everybody just disappeared, my eyes were drawn to one thing and one thing only.
She walked down the aisle towards me, her arm in her father's. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. She saw me staring and grinned straight back at me and I realised I couldn't stop smiling either.
'She's mine!' I was shouting in my head.
She wore completely white just like me, but the difference was she was even more like the shooting star I'd been telling her she was, the first week I was with her. Seemed so long ago now, considering I was standing here, making the biggest and most important commitment of my life.
She had almost reached me and I didn't even see her father kiss her on the cheek and place her hand in mine.
She giggled at me. That pulled me out of my daze and I pulled her close.
'You ready?' I whispered in her ear.
'Always have been.' Was her reply.
I stepped back, but kept my hand firmly in hers.
'We are gathered here today.......' droned the vicar.
But I was hardly listening, I was staring at the girl in front of me and thinking about how bloody lucky I was. I don't know what she was thinking but she was smiling straight back at me; we repeated what the vicar said without breaking gaze.
Then I realised he had reached the important part and I pulled myself back into reality.
'I do.' And she grinned at me as my best friend handed me the ring and I placed it on her finger.
'I do.' And a ring was placed on my finger.
'You may now kiss.....'
'About bloody time!' I shouted and pulled her into me and kissed her on the lips.
The music broke the silence and everybody stood up clapping but none of that mattered to me, I grabbed her hand and we ran straight out the doors, pausing only for her to throw the bunch of white lillies back.
'Bye, have a great time!' Was called out from all directions.
We jumped into the car and I once again pulled her into me.
'I love you.'
'I love you more.'
The happiest day of my life.
Even with the two hour sneezing fit from the lillies!
