Night Of The Cat Cruncher

One Halloween night, when the moon shone big and bright through the window of a living room, a pet cat was prowling round the house when it heard a spooky voice from high above.

“Cat! Cat! Beware!”, said the voice and, looking up, the cat saw that it was coming from a Halloween Pumpkin lantern that was sitting on a window sill.

“Beware what?”, asked the cat, starting to get a little frightened by all the Pumpkin’s wailing.

“Beware the thing”, said the Pumpkin, “The fiendish, horrid, grim and gristly thing which prowls through houses on Halloween night when the moon above is big and bright, snatching cats up in its terrible claws. BEWARE THE CAT CRUNCHER!”

“Oh my!?”, gasped the cat, shaking and all the hair on its furry cat body standing on end with fright, “The Cat Cruncher?! That sounds terrible! What is it?”.

“A monster”, said the Pumpkin, “An evil cat eating monster with one enormous, glowing red eye in the middle of its furry forehead and a nose as long as an elephants trunk that can snatch up cats as quick as a wink and four big, long furry arms and four
furry long fingered paws with sharp claws for catching cats by the tail and, worst of all, a great, big snapping mouth full of horrible, sharp yellow teeth for crunching and munching and chewing on cats!”.

“Eeeek!”, shrieked the cat, starting to panic, “Well, what should I do! What should I do!”.

“Run cat! Run as fast and as far away as you can”, advised the Pumpkin, “Run up the tallest tree you can find and hide there, because its well known that Cat Crunchers can’t climb trees”.

So the cat packed up a few things, its favourite blue ball of wool, two extra large tins of cat food and a tin opener and then he was out of that house so fast that he nearly tore the cat flap off.

However, the moment that the cat was out of the house, the Pumpkin said, “He’s gone now! The coast is clear!”.

And suddenly three little mice crawled out from inside the Pumpkin and, with the Cat out of the way, all the mice in the house had a very happy Halloween.
