The streets so dark and empty,
blackness fills the void between
earths surface and the sky,
no sound can be heard,
human life has no
substance of purpose,
waste flying around,
reminiscent of times gone by.
Where are the happy, smiling
faces of children that once
played in the park?
all that is left are the
gentle swaying to and fro,
as the swings move in motion
with the strong wind that blows,
trees toss about as if in a dance,
spooky shadows captured
in the light of the moon,
illuminating the sky,
but where are the people?
they are long gone,
all that is left are
reminiscence of what was.

The first stanza in particular is an excellent evocation of depression. Shows how a good poem can bring different messages to different readers
