Life long, unto life, I am betrothed;
contented with this flesh in which I’m clothed;
wearing this golden ring of days with pride;
happily sleeping by the Springtime’s side.
Surrender may seduce half-hearted men
but Death’s dark bed is cold for all I ken;
blossomed branches warmer than her embrace;
each rising sun far fairer than her face.
So let me love, for better or for worse,
this life, unfaithful hearts may call a curse.
An infant once, with smiles I said “I do”
and, till I breath no more, that will be true.
