See you all again

So, the summer’s over
the rain has stopped
the visitors have all gone home
A plastic football
lies between the railway tracks
I bet that caused some tears
On grey chilly evenings
the sun begins its journey
south from Wales to Ilfracombe
watched by promenading pensioners
and junkies in the concrete shacks
Order is restored
The Karaoke’s silenced
The quest is over for the note
that’s always out of reach
and the doormen shag the mothers
of the kids that they beat
It’s what you do when you’re bored
The funfair is dismissed
shutters fitted, chairs are stacked
And trembling dogs shit on the beach
as fleeing Northern caravans
spin litter in the street
Remember to book early
and we’ll see you all again next year
