Breath of Life

The snow hits the window like rocks, rattling the glass. Outside, the sky is gray and lifeless, full of heavy clouds that cry pellets of frozen water to the cold ground. The once blooming trees and flowers are coated on ice and frost that sucks out the life, turning them ugly and brown.
A girl sits, huddled in the windowsill, her frail, shivering body wrapped up in a thin, tattered quilt. Her lifeless blue eyes watch the snow absentmindedly as it casts shadows on her sunken pale cheeks. She rests her head on the wooden grey wall, tightening the blanket. Her fingers tremble, weak and ready to snap at any moment. Her stomach growls loudly, but she doesn’t react to it.
The snow continues to fall for days as she sits there, motionless. At some points, it starts to pound against the window, sometimes even cracking the glass. But eventually it crashes in, covering the girl. At that point, tears stream down her bony face like rain. Her sobs are heartbroken and helpless.
“Will anyone find me? Will anyone help me?” She cries into the frosty night.
Eventually, the snow stops, but she still remains exactly where she was before. She cries often, but silently.
At one point, the clouds start to disappear. She looks up, her dry blonde hair covered in snow, and realizes that they are leaving.
For days she waits as the snow slowly melts, trickling down her spine like raindrops. The cloud vanish and a bright yellow sun takes its place. The flowers sprout open and bloom in pinks, oranges and reds, creating a blankets of color around her. The trees grow lush green leaves again and hundreds of birds flutter around, singing to each other in harmonious melodies. The grass rises, shiny and emerald green, glistening in the sun. Turning a bright shade of baby blue, the sky boasts fluffy white clouds.
The girl changes too. Her skin fills out, now flushed with color and flesh. The once brittle hair turns shiny and bouncy again. Her eyes regain their life and sparkle in the light, and for the first time in forever, she smiles.
Without thinking, she rises, allowing the blanket to drift to the ground. Her body is strong and glistening in health. She has come back to life once again.

Very nice use of imagery,
''Love is all we know of heaven, and all we need of hell.''
