War Horse Rider

The dark black stallion rode across the sky
With huge outstretched limbs
that sped through the air with ease
He galloped forward through the night,
His black mane flowing, his strong neck raised
Toward the night and forward into battle
Forward and toward, the searing flash
The electric silver, blue…
Thunder of hoofs, and of night, and of rain
Raining down upon them
Forward into battle
Once again
The two flew on…
Holding on, to the animal beneath him
Wild and free, the ghost of both
Forcing through the winds of earth and battle
Beneath them and around them
The horse’s mouth white with froth
Then the powerful front legs
of his mountainous beast
Reared up against the night sky…
As swiftly they evolved now as one
The rider holding on, controlling
Forward into battle
As thunder cannons roared
Reared up the horse and man
Against the angry hoard…
Forward into battle
Ghosts of days, bygone…
As the beast calmed, and the rider eased
The rip torn grip of his hands
They gently faded into the night’s cloud
And the peace beyond….
