Such an Enigma

She deftly tore the petals, from a perfectly scented rose
scattering them purposefully across the room, her bed
hoping for a propitious reaction to her invitation
anticipation’s outcome for what should be, an act of love
He, pondered deeply, the thought of what it must really mean
to the rose…
her naked beauty ravaged, violated and torn; now lying forlornly detached
so lost to all possibility of any future rose moment, or any bee!
this once perfect mauve rose - such an enigma…
what else dies so silently thus enabling love; to remain so delightfully mysterious?

This poem had a medieval feel
This poem had a medieval feel to it Rob, or I could imagine the poem set to a Pre-Raphaelite painting called; 'The Briar Rose.' The painting was inspired by Charles Perrault's fairy tale:- The Sleeping Beauty one of my favourite fairy tales. I really enjoyed reading and took so much from this poem. One I could return to many times. Thank you for sharing. Jenny.
