He lays there glistening,
His head listing
With each rise and fall of her chest.
With her heartbeat pounding,
His ear is tuned
To sounds of her escaping breath.
She's splayed there panting,
Her lips twitching
As if to utter once again.
Her eyes seem incredulous
And she's rendered speechless.
Though she can, but only, gasp his name.
He smiles with content
As passion's spent.
The fate of a lovers' chapter imparts.
The gun now resting,
Its trigger still ringing;
He notes how powder burns smart.
And as he smooths the stress
From the mess on her dress,
They wait for caterwauling cars.
And the time taken for her to choke,
He watches barrel smoke
While the blood seeps across the yard.
