Chasing the Season

Wrapped inside
an avenue
of ringing bells
and colourful
decorations
a homeless man
crosses his
heart in pain
heels worn thin
each step groaning
across another
block. His
scent nor
mis-matched
clothes matter not
to the King of all.
Both bags
of clothing
(thank you Sally Ann)
heavy -- hunger
gnawing as he
joins a flood
of Christmas joy.
Pretends to be
part of the
excitement -- shoes
slapping
heart pounding.
Lighter with
a new level
of hope as he
climbs asphalt
on a slope
of city street
blues.
