A Soundsystem Story

Fell into you, on a rainy afternoon
You were trying to coax a tune from a battered sound system
You said, "We've gotta resist them"
And I had to agree
Cause they were stifling the lives of you and me
Running round and round in circles, searching for ways to be free
So what else could I do?
I joined you on the street.
We marched for miles that day, our smiles disintegrating in the rain
Listened to speeches, wondered if things would ever change
And when the police came and dragged you away
Blood streaming from the cut on your face
I wondered if there really was another way
Or would we remain
Locked in confrontation
With a system
That could never change
I never saw you again.
Now the sound system sits sadly in a corner of my room
It still won't play any bloody tunes
And I think to myself, we fell in love too soon
Sipping special brew by the light of the moon
Fell in love with liberty, guess we were doomed
To be disenchanted, our dreams left in ruins
Guess it always ends that way.
But I was sitting in my living room the other day
Looking out of my window at the city so grey
Haunted by memories of you, the things you said
I heard your voice so clear, echoing in my head
You said: we're gonna fix up that sound system, make it sing
Cause this time when we fight back, we're going to win.

Hi there Be.jasis,
Hi there Be.jasis,
no it wasn't the rhythm, it was the words and a tune just came into my head. Something like a Kenny Rogers record, singing about lost love.
Jenny.
