Modern Sonnet
By JamesF
- 427 reads
The rich are the foolish,
the poor are the wise.
The quiche of life never so sweet
when the bubble bursts on hope.
The client creeps into his armoured car
and falls two thousand feet to his death.
Workers hobble into factories at dawn
and lift each other, breaking their falls.
The sad banker swings his umbrella,
trying to forget the latest interest rates.
Servers enter the workplace in laughter,
full of stories from last night's party.
An illicit couple wake next to one another
and hurry into yesterday's office clothes.

Hi James. Just taken a Google
Hi James. Just taken a Google crash-course to try to remember what I learned about sonnets 20 years ago. Thanks for that. No rhyme here. I feel that I'm still learning.
