Ghosts of War (I.P.)

Ghosts of War
Just look at us now
As we build war memorials
For those coming home alone
To remember all those moments
When their minds broke
Leaving more than empty shells on the ground
Where the fallen kissed blood soaked sand.
You wear a poppy and give your pound
Which means nothing to those left in the ground
With empy shells
Littering the deserts
Like your memorial
Only we will never forget
When your Sunday is over
Ours never ends.
Soldiers are always Soldiers
Murderers are always killers
Sinners are never forgiven
Ghosts are not forgotten
The stains of war are never cleaned
Comrades lost will always return
In our nightmares while we are asleep
In broad daylight they creep
Subtle reminders of the lives we keep
Hidden behind our wall of tears
That never weep.
When I look at the children left behind
I can only breakdown
And remember the last time I cried
When all those men who had fought so hard
Lost the life they were fighting for
And I am left to ask myself like the few who survived
How can you win a war when you have lost more than you saved
And the child of my best friend will never see her Daddy again.

Syphon - cherries more than
Syphon - cherries more than deserved for this. I am not surprised. Wonderfully emotive writing.
