‘The Damage We Do’
By Art of the Diver

Life is too short to waste, especially when comes to feeling ill will, or harboring some hollow, emotive resentment towards someone once loved. Though with that said, so many do not realize until it's too late, that ill will and resentment felt, will inevitably be attracted to themselves, rather than to the other they would wish it upon.
‘The Damage We Do’
A rhythmic clack-clack, clack-clack,
breaks the silence of this night
That path to nowhere crying out again
as only steel striking steel can
Somewhere fades darkly
into the distance of nowhere
Into forever shifting infinity
beyond every horizon’s reasoning
Sleep has escaped my grasp - found
greater sands to wash over, somewhere
But then constant nagging thoughts of
coffee and tobacco, surely held open the door
It’s hot; a still dry heat
selfishly devoid of any empathy
Determined to have its presence
etched across all consciousness
Etched across barren landscapes
across my thoughts of you; across here
That rhythmic clack-clack, clack-clack fades
carrying you away in predawn silent sadness
Oh the damage we do
if we never learn to care, to love
or see beyond a wrongful stance
What damage we do, in ignoring
reality’s candor found in every truth’s pain
Lost is the chance to show we really care
so we tell ourselves that we don’t, all’s fair
And remain sleepless here; in pride’s foolish gain

So much truth and sadness.
So much truth and sadness. Reminded me of 'A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones'. (which is in the Bible in its book of Proverbs chapter 14 verse30). 'pride’s foolish gain' says so much. Rhiannon

Beautifully said. ' Lost is the chance to show we really care' a lovely and true sentiment. I agree with your lovely words in the first paragraph.

the damage we do
I often think of this, expressed beautifully in your poem. Words and thoughts can alter our world, negativity and unkindness embitter the soul...we live such a brief moment in time..
"Lost is the chance to show we really care
so we tell ourselves that we don’t, all’s fair"
we must be truthful to ourselves, and be aware... before it is too late.
