The Waist Band

The eating of the bread
Pringles is the cruellest lunch, feeding
Stomachs out of the waist-band, mixing
Appetite and desire, spreading
Dull buns with sprink-les
Chocolate kept us warm, adding
Girth to forgetful bones, feeding
A little life with dried raisins.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and ate for an hour.
Schreiben Sie keine Poesie, wenn ich habe Hunger.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out for a burger,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, neck it down. And down it went.
In McDonald’s, there you feel free.
I eat, much of the night, and make eyes at the waiter.
