Cigarette

The only warmth in your kiss is the taste of cigarettes,
Which has haunted your tongue more often in recent days
As you try to smoke away
Our troubles, as if our lies
Are as feeble as ash in the wind,
As if our fights lasted
As long a lighter flame.
A cigarette can't save this,
But I can savour the taste of it
If the nicotine can promise to distract you,
So that in this moment,
We can kiss.

As insert says, every word
As insert says, every word counts and the scene is so vivid I can almost taste that cigarette (and I don't smoke). Look forward to reading more of your work.

You really capture the atmosphere of hope in fragile relations
Very well crafted, brought back some unhappy (but resolved) memories.
