Politicians rising to the fight, a new election promise, a chance of success.

It’s all about winning support, appealing to voters – but which voters?

Who can they impress and why?

What do the people want and how can they be given it?

Animal Politician gathers votes and credit, grooming audiences, handing out favours.

Why can’t he or she be what the people want?

He or she can only be what he or she thinks the people want, because he or she doesn’t actually know what the people want!

Clutching at policies, listening to big business, the so called experts, and listening to the people, who only know what they are told.

I wrote this piece at the beginning of the election campaign on 24/4/17, feeling unexcited by the prospect of another campaign.

Things have changed a bit since then!

Yes things have changed, but I'm not sure if its for the better. At least we had a government, now we're not even sure we've got a government that can govern. Corbyn's done very well, but there were a lot of expensive promises there too and he's not the government either!

I am not over-fond of Corbyn but I like his supporters. The only politician who has ever helped me is Gordon Brown when he was at no 11, both with working families tax credit and more recently with disability working tax credit. However there are still many people with children and many people with disabilities who are not in a position to work 16 hours a week and thereby gain the benefits he introduced.

it all started in the UK with Thatcher who taught the people taxes are bad. That's bullshit. Taxes pay for the things we need when the going gets tough. Properly used taxes enrich everybody not just the chosen few.
