One Day in October

Come hither shaped branches
Sway on tall barren trees
Outlined in ghost light
On all Hallows Eve
Brave little demons,
Dragons and ghosts
Minions and kings,
Ninjas and toads
With bright orange bags
Clutched in the hands
Laughing and spooking
All over the lands
A knock, a chant
of “Trick or Treat”
Calling for candy
And sweet things to eat
Found at each door
Scary décor
Giggles and chills
Jack-o-lanterns and more
One day in October
One full mooned night
One witches brew
Of Halloween Delight

Soon be here again!
I love all the stuff around Halloween, always made a big thing of it with my kids when they were young.
I enjoyed this very much, starts off mysterious and then we get to the fun part. I didn't think the first verse worked quite as well as the rest, the rhythm and rhyme weren't quite as good. You have some lovely images - the 'come hither branches' just exactly evoke those spooky bare trees. Great stuff!

It's the posting-twice
It's the posting-twice gremlins, in practice for Halloween!
I personally feel it reads better now - more like a whole, complete piece. I hope you'll post the other piece as well - look forward to reading that!

My favorite time of the year,
My favorite time of the year, Penny. You captured it well here. We live on Main street in our town. So we attract many of the little costumed ones. Enjoyed this.
