DICK.

Where I work, we all have to read all the Health and Safety, and Policy and Procedures, sign and date them, they are updated regularly, they are an important part of our job, and we even have to go on training to make sure we fully follow and understand them to the letter. Including in these important documents is Whistleblowing, Bullying, How To Make A Complaint and many more.
Last year I witnessed bullying first hand at work and I was horrified, my other co-workers witnessed it too, whenever we could we would briefly discuss it, but one day I decided enough was enough, I was going to do something about it, because I really hate injustice.
I emailed who was in charge, and included another important person in the email, I didn’t hold back and told them all that he had done. This all came under whistleblowing, bullying and making a complaint, serious charges against him.
A few days later I had an email reply, but it wasn’t what I had expected. The two I had emailed past on my email to another part of the Company much higher up and this unknown woman didn’t mince her few words to me nor did the man above the person in charge who I knew really well. It was very clear to me that I was in BIG trouble!
I did tell myself I would never whistle blow ever again when I was in a meeting for whistleblowing with the other person many years ago and during the meeting, I almost got the sack. The other person did get the sack, but I decided next time I would do like everyone else and turn a blind eye, as it doesn’t pay to get involved into anyone’s business, but the person been bullied, it hurt me deeply to see how she was been treated by this other co-worker. It’s at times like that, I sometimes wish I wasn’t me, but another, who wasn’t bothered. Some say, “Do your work, mind your own business and go home.” But that’s just not me, I can’t turn a blind eye if I see it, it just makes me angry.
The tables had now turned and I was in deep sh*t, yes, I was scared, scared I’d lose my job, the co-worker she was completely unaware of it all, me fighting for her, she is a lovely sweet, hardworking soul. There was talks of meetings I’d have to go to for all the bad discrimination, things I’d put in the email about him, they picked out words that I was not allowed to say, and used the Policy and Procedures against me, I was backed into a small dark corner and I couldn’t see a way out, there was lots of sleepless nights for me and I’m sure a few more grey hairs appeared on my head.
They told me, “There would be an investigation,” So I waited for my fate, I knew it didn’t look good, the outcome. I did regret that I sent the email, as I didn’t want to lose my job. But I had to DO something.
It was decided with the powers that be, that my Manager would have a meeting with me, he did, and he just gave me a ‘slap on the wrist,’ nothing became of my complaint of bullying, and Dick, wasn’t even cautioned about his bullying.
This year was awful for yet another ‘victim’ of Dick’s the lovely Erin, he has made her life a living hell, he has twisted something she said and accused her to the Manager as something that comes under discrimination, what this twisted person has done is disgusting, the pits! He has made a good, hardworking person depressed, Erin always comes to work with a smile on her face, he has worn her down and he has removed her joy, no one should have to put up with this nonsense, but Erin has for well over a year endured Dick, and we the other co-workers know about it.
Erin made a formal complaint against Dick for bulling against her, the Manager said to Erin, “I’m SO angry with Dick right now, wait till I see him!” But the very next day the tables turned against Erin, when Dick made a very serious complaint against Erin, under the umbrella of discrimination, and that was that, whatever Erin wanted to say didn’t matter anymore to Management. The Mighty, Untouchable Dick had won yet again.
One co-worker said to me, “Management is scared of Dick,” And I had to agree with him by saying, “I know, he knows whatever he does, they will never sack him for we have all complained about him, and he’s still here, I think the only way he will ever be sacked is if he does something bad against the Manager, and that isn’t likely to happen!”
So when Management push for us to know and follow the Policy and Procedures, in real life it doesn’t work, in our work place it’s a ‘joke’ a sham for the Inspectors to see that we have folders and folders of them all dated and signed, for they only use it by the book when they want to, but if it’s to cover their own useless backs or their friends back, it’s unused, invalid.
I intend to defend Erin’s honour as I’ve recently got information that what Dick said about her is a lie, I know it’s always his words against ours, he is always right and we are all always wrong, he’s always believed and we not, when he says lies about us all, his words is taken at face value, but us, “You have to have proof.”
Dick is the only one who is able to remove all our smiles, and he is the one who does nothing at work, personally I think our Manager did something bad and Dick knows about it and that is why he is untouchable!
