Cold Night for a Homeless Man

So cold my

legs

they

should be

like fire

not almost

frozen

 

baby

blanket stolen

the only contact

I had

with my mother

the child in

me – remembering

her soft embrace

such warm hugs.

 

Her smile

her sweet breath.

Where are you

Mom?

A sad moving poem Richard. Can't imagine what it must feel like to be homeless, cold and scared. But your description said it all.

Hello Jenny, My wife, Esther and I, now attending 'GroundswellChurch.ca' in Truro are working on several Outreach Projects with Homeless persons. Helping provide coffee on the street, helping some with new winter coats and general encouragement in listening to and giving friendship are the areas we work on. It is a great learning experience for us. Several poems have arisen from our contacts. Have a Blessed Christmas.

your very short lines gave it a shivering rhythm? the baby's blanket and feeling so alone and unwanted now, remembering a mother's care and protection is very moving

Thank you DH- The qualifications and reasons for these homeless souls staggers the imagination. Pray for them. Canada as a country of such wealth should be ashamed to allow so many to be in such a position as having to survive on the street.
