When Creatures Gather
By Richard L. Provencher
- 685 reads
Shadows assemble
like a puzzle
shivering up and down
as they crawl out of the dawn.
These slippery shapes
move slowly towards me
and their granite faces
appear tight-lipped
each creating a scream that
must emerge.
I want to run away
to a space when I was
just a child and my eyes
feasted on dreams
of too much ice-cream
and a rainbow coloured taste.
But the images just before me
are alive & squirmy
with long teeth which
now descend from bulging
& bleeding lips.
I sense they are on a mission
yet I know not why
and I fear for my safety
because I believe
they are coming to EAT ME!

Your poem reminds me of the
Your poem reminds me of the many forest mysteries of creatures that walk between worlds. The American Indians believed in shape shifters and not just in their imaginations.
A great nightmarish write.
Jenny.

Zombies! Love the movies
Zombies! Love the movies, gruesome! Loved the one where this Zombie breaks of the guy's thumb holds and civilized eats it dainty like a drumstick.
Kind of Covid too, well we got through that hey? Or have we? Now it's war what's next, could be nothing, MAD – Mutual Assured Destruction. Hope not.
All the best Richard! Looks like you're good at the horror stories! Tom
