Welkin Spirit

Like a whip-poor-will
I hide
In camouflage colors
Bending
Twisting
Dodging life’s arrows
I feint
And let them pass
Life’s pitfalls abound
Adversity sits
Watching
Like a raven quoting
Nevermore
I shall
Bask in the sun
Rejoice
In the cleansing rains
Wild winds
And Spirit songs
Formed in Auburn sunsets
And blue horizons
Like the whip-poor-will
Chants its name
In a whisper
On a breeze
To Welkin spirits
Evermore

I had not heard of "whip poor will" and like how spirit is not broken in your poem, but free as the bird's call in the wind

Thank you for introducing us
Thank you for introducing us to this bird Penny - what a pleasure it was to read this beautiful poem too. You very much deserve those golden cherries!

Hi Penny,
Hi Penny,
I too have never heard of this bird, is it found here in England, or a bird from your part of the world?
Birds are always a fascination, especially the rarer ones, you've explored the very soul of this bird and come up with a perfect poem.
Very much enjoyed reading.
Jenny.
