Luke was just on his way to the control room, when he saw his father. He could hardly believe it was him and Dawson making their way down the corridor, it had been so long. “Father! You're back at last.” Approaching, they hugged and Addie patted his son on the back in welcome.
“Son! It's so good to see you again. How are you and your Mother?”
“Oh! We're fine. But what about you? What was the expedition like? Did you get to explore?”
Addie felt like he was being bombarded with questions. “Hold on son! I'll tell you all about it in good time. But first; how is Mum?”
Luke felt worried about telling him, but knew he had to know. “Mum's been ill, she's not been eating properly and missed you a lot.”
Addie sighed, feeling a sudden pressure to get back home immediately. “I'll see you tomorrow Dawson – nice and early I hope!” Placing an arm around Luke's shoulder, he beckoned him to come with him. “Come on son, you can fill me in on the details on the way back.”
Dawson wasn't too amused at having to be at Addie's beck and call so early the next day, especially with what he'd been through. “I'll see you when I see you tomorrow. Oh! By the way, give my love to Lena.”
Addie grinned back at Dawson. “Okay! Will do.”
“So! How was your trip?” Luke asked.
“Now you know I can't discuss my trip with anyone, not even you and Lena, but I've got some good news.
“Yeah! So what's that Father?” Luke was desperate to hear what he had to say.
“Well! We'll be travelling back to the New World in a couple of days, and you're coming too.”
“Really!” Replied Luke, delighted, but surprised.
Forgetting he wasn't supposed to no, Addie stopped in his tracks. “Yeah! The Minister seems to think you're ready – I hear you got your pilot's licence; which is wonderful news.” Addie hugged his son again. “I think this calls for a celebration. Does Mum know you've passed?”
“No! Not yet,” replied Luke.
“Well hopefully it will cheer her up, she's going to be so proud of you son.”
Luke wasn't really bothered that his Father knew about his pilot's licence, at least he was going on his first trip to the New World, that he'd only seen on the screens at their cinemas. “So then! Let's go home and cheer Mum up.”
Reaching their apartment, Addie patted his son on the back as they opened the door. Their apartment was quiet, as they walked through and into the kitchen. “I left Mum in the garden,” uttered Luke.
Giving his son a wink. “Well! Let's surprise her.” Addie opened the door to the garden, it slid to one side as he pressed a button. Lena was sat in her chair, her eyes closed listening to some music. Addie crept up behind her and gently kissed her cheek. Lena brushed it, as if a fly had just landed. Opening her eyes, she looked up. A huge smile crossed her face when she saw her husband. “Addie! Thank the stars you're back, I thought I'd never see you again – it's been so long.” She jumped up and flung her arms around him, feeling the warmth of his body which brought tears of happiness.
Luke wanted to celebrate with them, but knew they'd probably want to be left alone. “Look! I was just on my way to the control room when I saw you father – I've got some work to do. Max needs me, so I'll leave you two to celebrate.” He felt awkward as he made his way back through the doors into the kitchen. “Don't worry – I'll catch up with you later.” He shouted to his Father, though Addie never really heard.
Gazing into Lena's eyes, they knew exactly how they'd celebrate and it wasn't with a drink!

Such contrasting images on
Such contrasting images on Obsidian. Showers, beds and all mod cons. You bring across the sense of awe at being somewhere so much more advanced so well. If seems a shame that the children will get reprogrammed and lose their memories of the new world.
So many joyous reunions. Still unfinished business, though. Looking forward to reading more to see how everything ends up, especially re Gregor. Paul :)
