Before Good Friday In Belfast
By Paul McCann’
I was just a lad when things turned bad in Belfast
like a lamb at the gate in 1968 .
There were too many wolves in the fields prowling around
with hungry eyes , blood thirsty and filled with hate ;
Between bullets and bombs ,
burning buses and running riots
on the streets of Belfast everyday.
There were people who continued to walk and talk
and keep on living in a normal kind of way .
There were no masks to stop the CS gas
from penetrating your lungs as you took every breath .
,People got used to the daily chaos
in Belfast and the reality of death after death .
I remember some of those brave Belfast people
back then like giants standing defiant and strong .
Those days have all gone and life goes on .
Peace has returned again to Belfast the
place where I came from .

Brings back memories of my
Brings back memories of my brief stay in Belfast - down from Cushendall on the bus, through the villages with the Union flag painted on the pavements, the bonfires waiting; and in the city the parked pigs with watching eyes through the slits.

Thanks Paul. I also recall
Thanks Paul. I also recall attending a 'rock mass' - as you'll know not with electric guitars; and the highlight of our stay was a lock-in where my wife palyed the piano for the band - they just wanted some percussion.
Best.......Dougie
