Come Back To Ardoyne
by Paul McCann
Come back to Ardoyne from where ever you are ,
in Zambia . Zimbabwe or Zanzibar .
So many have left us on an aeroplane
and we’d love to see your face back home again .
We’re waiting here , to share a bit of your craic ,
so tell me now ,when do you think you’ll be back .
Days turn into weeks and months turn into years
and before you know it time just disappears .
So come to home to Ardoyne before it’s too late ,
we’ll be here waiting at the wee garden gate
.

I was there nine years ago
I was there nine years ago but only for an our or so. It was part of my first visit to Belfast since 1970. Ardoyne is a place which, although I had never been to before, was planted firmly in my brain. In just a few days I learned a lot about my past and my family's past.

I lived in the North of
I lived in the North of Ireland during the early years of the Troubles. In fact I was there for the start of them. We lived in a small town in the countryside though, so my experience will have been different to yours. Our family moved to England to escape but experienced another sort of discrimination on arrival there. Happier times now but for those touched by the Troubles they never completely go away.
